The Carmel Academy of Performing Arts has been working hard to bring you some incredible entertainment during their Showcase 2012! The Sunset Center in Carmel-by-the-Sea will be full of vibrant local talent in dance and vocals. 6pm, Friday-Sunday. San Carlos at Ninth Avenue, Carmel-by-the-Sea. $24. Don’t miss a performance of God of Carnage this weekend at the Circle Theatre. The Broadway piece by Yasmina Reza will have the crowd laughing in hysterics. Native American and Western art collide this weekend at the Monterey County Fairgrounds. The Indian Arts Market showcases all sorts of artifacts, antiques and contemporary offerings. The Monterey Museum of Art La Mirada is excited to unveil their latest exhibit In Sharp Focus. This exhibit features works from northern California photographers including Ansel Adams, Edward Weston and Imogen Cunningham. Tonight they host a special preview and reception full of wine and hors d’oeuvres. 6pm-8pm, 720 Via Mirada, Monterey. $10 for members and $15 for non-members. The Henry Miller Library comes alive tonight! Jenny Lewis and Nik Freitas light up the night with their Indie and folk songs. Jenny plays hits from her wildly popular album “Acid Tongue.” 7:30pm, Highway One, Big Sur. $40.50. Pair some vino with the smooth folk and indie songs from Gayle Skidmore at Pierce Ranch Vineyards. Today is the day to meet and greet local farmers and see what they have been hiding in their greenhouses. Six different nurseries open their doors to showcase beautiful plants and flowers to the public during the 3rd Annual Monterey Bay Greenhouse Open House. 10am-4pm, various venues. Free event. Did you know that the Monterey County Fairgrounds hosted some of the greatest live acts around before they even became famous? Music icons like Jimi Hendrix, The Who and Janis Joplin all graced the stages during the 1967 “Pop Festival.” Now you can relive this slice of history with a walking tour where it all went down. Tour guide Tim Thomas will lead fans through the fairgrounds recounting the epic music festival on its 45th anniversary. 10am and 2pm, 2004 Fairgrounds Road, Monterey. $20-$25.
