Carmel Plaza spices up Black Friday with live music from the area's best youth band, Operation Rock along with the Dennis Murphy School of Music. At 2pm, the cast of Spamalot performs a snippet of their hilarious Monty Python musical comedy. 1pm-3pm, Ocean Avenue and Mission Street, Carmel-by-the-Sea. Free event.

Burn off those extra Thanksgiving Day calories with a River Walk. Guides with the Monterey Peninsula Regional Parks District take hikers on the River Trail for gorgeous views of the Carmel River. The 3.4 mile hike is expected to last 2-3 hours. Don't forget to bring water, lunch and snacks and to wear comfortable hiking boots. 9am, East Garzas Trailhead #1, Carmel Valley. Free event.

Kids itching for something to do this four-day weekend? Bring them over to the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History for a lesson about Pacific Grove's winter visitors. Monarch Butterflies are the topic of today's Science Saturday where kids can create a monarch chrysalis pin, view live butterflies and have their face painted. 11am-3pm, 165 Forest Avenue, Pacific Grove. Free event.

Sunday

Oldtown Salinas lights up tonight as the 13th Annual Holiday Parade of Lights kicks off the season. Over 70 parade entrants march down the streets which range from marching bands, floats, dancers to classic cars. The route winds up South Main Street and through Oldtown to the National Steinbeck Center. 6pm, South Main Street at Acacia Street, Salinas. Free event.
