All Weekend

It's finally here! Monterey Auto Week takes over Monterey County August 11-17 for several auctions, scenic drives, auto shows, and the grand daddy of events the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Classic cars take to streets, golf courses, parks and the world-renowned Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, surrounding visitors with four-wheeled eye candy at every turn. Friday and Saturday head out for an invigorating hike through Asilomar State Beach. The "Asilomar Ramble" tour covers all sorts of natural and cultural historical tidbits of this coastal refuge. The free one hour walking tour begins in the Phoebe Apperson Hearst Social Hall at the Asilomar Conference Grounds. Everyone's favorite ogre and his fairytale misfits are at the Golden Bough in Carmel-by-the-Sea this weekend. Shrek the Musical is sure to be a hilarious hit with the whole family. The Monterey Bay Aquarium stays up past its bedtime for Evenings by the Bay! This summer the aquarium stays open until 8pm on Saturday and Sunday nights for live music, wines by the glass and light appetizers. On Saturday guests will enjoy rock and pop from Steve Ezzo & The Monterey Acoustic Project and Sunday's event will feature live jazz from Tim Jackson & Friends. 6pm-8pm. 886 Cannery Row, Monterey. Carmel Plaza is rocking out for the Summer Live Music Series! Tonight's entertainment features live music from Red Beans & Rice and food and wine provided by 400 Degrees Gourmet Burgers & Fries and Blair Estate Winery for $15. 5pm-7pm. Squeeze in some shopping and live music this evening at the Del Monte Center in Monterey. Tonight the Tribute Band Concert Series hosts The Police Tribute Band in the Garden Court near H&M. 6pm-8pm. 1410 Del Monte Center, Monterey. Free event.

Saturday

Get the kids out of the house and into the museum today! The Monterey Museum of Art La Mirada is hosting a Family Free Day for kids of all ages to enjoy the incredible exhibits entirely for free. This Family Day is inspired by the current exhibition, The Spirit of Motion: Photographs by Michael Furman and Automotive Jewelry and SHIFT: Five Decades of Contemporary California Painting, and celebrates the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, the world's premier celebration of the automobile. 11am-4pm. 720 Via Mirada Monterey. Sunday

Come one, come all to the Central Coast Motorsports Spectacular at the Salinas Sports Complex! There will be all sorts of heart pumping action with monster trucks, a demolition derby, motorcycle jumpers and more! 12pm-5pm. 1034 N. Main Street, Salinas. $10-$25.
