The Monterey Bay Aquarium kicks off its popular Evenings by the Bay series this weekend! This summer the aquarium extends its hours Saturday and Sunday nights accompanied by sustainable seafood bites, wine tastings and live music. On Saturday rock and R&B group the Monterey Acoustic Project perform while jazz musician Kenny Stahl performs on Sunday. Saturday and Sunday from 6pm-8pm. 886 Cannery Row, Monterey. What better way to start your weekend then with a stunning sunset at Asilomar Conference Grounds. Every Friday throughout this summer the iconic property opens its doors for Sunset on the Deck. Phoebe's Cafe and deck will feature live entertainment, weekly grill specials, craft beers, regional wines, and cocktails. Tonight's featured musical group is locals favorite Andrea's Fault. 6:30pm. 800 Asilomar Avenue, Pacific Grove. Free event.

Wind down from the busy week at tonight's CSU Summer Arts program where CSU Monterey Bay's World Theatre features classical guitar legends Eliot Fisk, Andrew York and Roland Dyens. 7pm. 6th Avenue and Divarty, Seaside. $18-$20.

Happy 4th of July! Celebrate Independence Day where California was first born! Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel-by-the-Sea, King City and Spreckels are each throwing their own hometown bashes.

Carry on with the patriotic festivities at the Sloat Landing Ceremony at Custom House Plaza. Today Monterey celebrates the raising of the Stars & Stripes by Commodore John Drake Sloat on July 7, 1846, claiming California for the United States. Uniformed re-enactors and music from the Monterey Community Band will help re-create this significant event in American history. 1pm, 20 Custom House Plaza, Monterey. Free event.
