Enjoy a slice of Americana this weekend at the Monterey County Fairgrounds. The inaugural Americana Festival features two-days full of performances from artists like Jason Isbell, Victor Krummenacher and Ashley Raines. Aside from the plethora of Americana music, festival-goers can also enjoy cuisine from food trucks, ink from tattoo artists and a beer garden. Friday

Meet the artists behind the latest works in the Arts Council for Monterey County exhibit hall at the Sunset Center. Jaime Ayala, Bryan Flores and Carolyn Moore make appearances at tonight’s reception. 4pm-7pm, San Carlos between 8th and 9th, Carmel-by-the-Sea. Free event. Local artist Lucas Blok officially opens his exhibit at the Monterey Museum of Art at tonight’s Open Reception. His unique uses of color and depth will make you feel as though you are being sucked into the canvas. 5pm-7pm, 559 Pacific Street, Monterey. $10. Saturday

Start you day off on the right foot with a hike through “Garland’s Other Side.” Guides with the Monterey Peninsula Regional Parks District take hikers on the Gabilan Trail up to the Spring Trail before winding down the Laureles Trail. The 4 mile hike is expected to last 3 hours. Don’t forget to bring water and snacks and to wear good hiking shoes. 10am. Little League Ball Park off of Paso Hondo Road, Carmel Valley. Free event. The Jerry Shannahan Trio stops by the Fernwood Taven for a great night of live music. 9pm, 47200 Highway One, Big Sur. Free event.

Sunday

Take a hike with guides from the Monterey Peninsula Regional Parks District. Today’s Palo Corona Birding Hike will look for resident and migratory feathered friends including raptors, red-tailed hawks and owls. The 2.5 mile hike is expected to last 3 hours. Don’t forget to bring water and snacks and to wear good hiking shoes. 10am, Palo Corona Barn, Carmel Valley. Free event. Tim Jackson and Real Time jam out on the patio at the Big Sur River Inn this lazy Sunday afternoon. 1pm, 46840 Highway One, Big Sur. Free event. Just need to dance?
