Participants will work in the kitchen of Cantinetta Luca directly with executive chef Jason Balestrieri as he teaches a variety of pizza and fresh pasta making techniques for easy use in the home kitchen. In the “Pasta Secrets Class” you will learn the simple “labor-of-love” techniques of making handmade pasta dough, rolling out the dough, cutting it into shapes, what sauces go best with different pasta shapes and how to cook perfect al dente pasta. All the classes take place on Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. The cost for either the “Pizza Secrets Class” or “Pasta Secrets Class” is $50 per person, per class (plus service fee and tax). We invite you to join us for the 2012 Big Sur Chanterelle Cook-Off and Festival on February 24 and 25 to celebrate the unique natural wonders of Big Sur, the extraordinary culinary skill of local chefs, world-class local vintners and brew masters, and the talent of local artists. With its remarkable bounty and beauty, Big Sur is the centerpiece of the extraordinary California Central Coast. And chanterelles, unlike any other mushroom anywhere, are the epitome of Big Sur’s exquisite natural world. This festival will be a special event for chanterelle and Syrah lovers, a community celebration honoring a tradition of protecting our natural resources, and a benefit for an important community cause. All 12 celebrated Big Sur chefs will compete this year – and 10 of the extraordinary wine makers from our amazing Santa Lucia region – Carmel Valley to Paso Robles – will enchant you with their incredible wines and charm you with their wonderful stories. Big Sur artists, music makers and garment creators have many wonderful treats for this event.

I want to sing like birds sing, not worrying about who hears or what they think. - Rumi Singing offers a powerful way to connect more deeply with ourselves and others. This workshop offers an opportunity to tease out our most authentic expression, move energy, and make music with no pressure; it is the simple joy of singing together. Singers are invited to explore the full potential of their voices through exercises and songs of many genres learned in the round. Lisa’s style is shaped by more than twenty years of vocal training and teaching experience, and is rooted in gentle and compassionate awareness practices. She has been teaching singing classes at Esalen regularly since 2007, facilitating a joyful alchemy of music, personal exploration, and group connection. Deeply informed by Esalen’s Gestalt teachings and the magic of her Big Sur home, she shapes a container that inspires opening, challenges beliefs, and celebrates the human spirit. This workshop is designed for singers of all ages, abilities, and experience. You don't need to be able to read music, or even think you can sing.

Sandy the Gray Whale migrated to the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History 29 years ago and stayed for good. Join us for Science Saturday at 11:00 a.m. –“Marvelous Mushrooms”--and then at 1:00 p.m. for cake and celebration in honor of Sandy. Sandy has been an icon in Pacific Grove since arriving in 1982. Created by noted marine mammal sculptor Larry Foster, the 45-foot, life-size whale originally arrived on loan.
