Contemporary art and independent film collide for five days in Carmel-by-the-Sea during the Carmel Art & Film Festival. The festival features art in almost every medium including music, fine art, photography and, of course, film. Events will be scattered throughout the artist’s haven of Carmel-by-the-Sea with the Sunset Cultural Center as the hub for the event.
Art
Art is the main focal point of this marquee event. Starting Wednesday spectators can admire images from photographer Michael Childers at the Photography Exhibition. His “Icons & Legends” exhibition will be open to the public at two separate venues, the Marjory Evans Gallery in the Sunset Center and the Museum of Monterey. A special reception will be held on Wednesday at the Museum of Monterey in Monterey’s Custom House Plaza, where Michael Childers himself will unveil a selection of his pieces.
On Saturday and Sunday, Carmel-by-the-Sea’s Devendorf Park will be dressed up with great works of art including paintings, sculptures, photography and more for Art in the Park. There will also be an art auction and gallery crawl throughout Carmel’s quaint galleries on Saturday.
Film Screenings
Over 100 films will be shown for four days straight beginning Thursday, October 13th. Film categories include narrative features, documentaries, shorts and student films. Venues include the Sunset Center, Theatre 105 and the All Saints Theatre. On Saturday, don’t forget to bring the entire family for a special screening of short films on beautiful Carmel Beach.
A special Filmmakers Gala takes place at the Sunset Center on Thursday. It is here that the presentation of the coveted “Clint Eastwood Filmmakers Award” will be awarded.
Tickets
Day Passes can be purchased for $50 and includes film screenings that begin before 5pm.
