Get ready to get down and dirty at the 8th annual Big Sur's Mud Run presented by the Big Sur International Marathon on March 23, 2013. The Mud Run will start at 8 am sharp for individuals and 10am for teams. The course will begin and end at Freeman Stadium at CSU Monterey Bay in Seaside, CA. Sponsored in part by the US Army, the 5 mile obstacle course will test runners on different trails involving pavement, hills, water and of course, mud. Drill sergeants along the way will provide motivation, and also order racers to do jumping jacks, push-ups, and other activities. Runners will end the race coated in mud, but a free shower is included in the registration fee.

Hard core competitors will flock from all over the state where they will be challenged not only in speed but in strength and agility. Competitors must perform a variety of tasks including push-ups, jumping jacks, balancing on narrow beams and tackling 5-foot tall walls all the while taking orders from nearby drill sergeants.

Race Regulations

Runners may participate as individuals or as part of a team. Teams must fall into one of the following categories: male, female, mixed, corporate, military, public safety, high school or collegiate. Teams are encouraged to have a team name and theme. In order the prevent crowding, the race will be divided into separate waves.

Individual runners will be recognized and awarded for best overall male and female, for both civilian and military categories, as well as age groups. Team awards will be given to the top three teams in each category (male, female, mixed, corporate, military, public safety, high school or collegiate).

Big Sur's Mud Run Registration Information

Participants must be at least 12 years of age and may enter the run individually (civilian or military) or as part of a 5-person team. Teams must fall into one of the following categories: male, female, mixed, corporate, military, public safety or collegiate. The event is limited to 2,000 individual runners and 400 teams. Registration fees are $55 for individuals and $275 for teams, not including military or student discounts. Participants can register online at the official Big Sur's Mud Run website.
