The Castroville Artichoke Festival is a commemoration of all things artichoke. The event has artichoke cooking demos, tours of artichoke farms, artichoke-themed art and souvenirs (and a contest to make art out of actual artichokes!), an artichoke parade, artichokes (and other vegetables) for sale at the farmer's market, a race through the artichoke fields, a classic car show, a wine exposition, and of course artichokes prepared in every way imaginable.
In celebration of the 50th Castroville Artichoke Festival, chefs from Monterey County's finest restaurants have provided us with their favorite artichoke recipes.

A tradition for over half a century, the Castroville Artichoke Festival takes over the town on May 15 and 16, 2010. Open from 10am to 6pm on Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sunday, the Castroville Artichoke Festival features foods and events all centered around Castroville's favorite food.
The Castroville Artichoke Festival has outstanding live acts headlining both days.
The Castroville Artichoke Festival Parade marches through the streets of Castroville on Sunday, beginning at 9:45am. This is a sanctioned parade. The entries are fighting for top prize, and the competition is fierce! Large floats, performing entertainment acts such as marching bands and baton corps, cheerleaders, classic cars, equestrians and more will all participate in the Castroville Artichoke Festival Parade.
Throughout the weekend, check out the classic car show. Sample wines from throughout the state at the California Wine Exposition. Admire three-dimensional sculptures built from fruits and vegetables in the Agro Art competition. Learn the many ways you can prepare artichokes at cooking demonstration throughout the festival. A farmer's market, arts and crafts vendors and food stands selling artichokes prepared in every way assure you won't go home hungry or empty-handed.

From Highway One or 101, take Route 156 toward Castroville. Exit at Highway 183 and head north. The festival is northwest of the intersection of Highways 183 and 156.
