In advance of launching the locals advertising campaign, the MCCVB ran a sweepstakes on the new CVB blog, www.BlogMonterey.com. Publicized in and co-sponsored by the Monterey County Weekly, the sweepstakes asked locals to create their own ideal 36-hour getaway itinerary within Monterey County and then upload it to the blog (faxed, emailed and mailed submissions were accepted, as well).
Numerous and creative entries were submitted ranging from a "hard working" California State University student who needed a break, to a couple who wanted to tour Highway 1 in a rented Aston Martin, to a gentleman who wanted to enjoy a relaxing exploration of the Salinas Valley including wine tasting and a Pinnacles National Monument hike. A panel of judges reviewed the entries and selected a winner...Sheryl Cornelisen. Her appealing oceanside getaway and local knowledge of the area pleased the judges. Look for a short interview with this ecstatic winner on the blog this week!
