From the outside, despite its freshly painted yellow facade, Cafe Fina looks like its neighbors. Inside the decor is subdued, with framed photos of the owners' family on the wall. At the end of the long, narrow space are tables with a view of the water. Dominic Mercurio welcomes you to taste a variety of cuisine including mesquite barbecue fish, home made pasta and ravioli. A wood burning oven prepares excellent pizza and lamb dishes. A quaint decor and ocean views make dining here a very pleasurable event. Coming from generations of fishing families, proclaims your host, we know about fresh fish and good cooking. As the son of a fisherman, it becomes a rite of passage to learn those skills firsthand. When I was 13 years old, they were predicting a slow Alaskan season, so rather than having a partner for a full share, a lot of the fisherman took their sons with them instead. We lived all summer in a little place called Egegik. It was fishing village with just a mess hall and bunk house. I loved it so much, I went up for the next 19 years. It was a great way to grow up, spending the summers fishing and the winters working in the restaurants. It's been known for fish just out of the water and pasta that's rolled out each morning, not to mention Gram's recipe for homemade cannoli, that gives Cafe Fina the distinction of a predominantly tourist neighborhood. Tradition.... something very important that Dominic, along with his wife Naida, will be passing on to their two children, Kathryn and Dominic. The Monterey Chart House building used to be a working cannery in Steinbeck's days, however in 1983 it became home to the Chart House restaurant. Today, its rustic-retro décor creates a dining atmosphere that is lively and romantic. We are ideally located on historic Cannery Row with panoramic views of Monterey Bay and the city lights beyond. While relaxing by a waterside table enjoy the bay¿s abundant sea life, including otters and sea lions. Our menu includes such imaginative seafood items as Sesame-Crusted Salmon, Bronzed Swordfish, Macadamia-Crusted Mahi-Mahi, and Coconut Shrimp. Land lovers will rave about our ever famous slow-roasted prime rib and succulent steaks. Our specialty not to be missed is the infamous Chocolate Lava Cake, cooked to order and served warm at your table. We have full bar/lounge facilities and complimentary parking located just east of the restaurant. We can accommodate groups of 20-125 with a banquet menu designed to help your event run efficiently. During the famous Cannery Row Steinbeck Era, fish hoppers played an important role on the Monterey peninsula. The fish hoppers, large square wooden boxes, were anchored off the shores of Cannery Row to receive the fish caught by Monterey s premier fishing fleet. Fishing boat captains guided their overburdened vessels to empty their catches into fish hoppers floating in the Monterey Bay outside of each cannery. The fish were scooped into the cannery, the fish were weighed and then sent to the processing plants. Today The Fish Hopper Restaurant is located directly on Historical Cannery Row and is situated in the Steinbeck Plaza at 700 Cannery Row. The Fish Hopper stands directly over the beautiful waters of the Monterey Bay. Once an original sardine cannery building, The Fish Hopper offers the most spectacular panoramic views available on the Central coast from every table. The Fish Hopper has a spacious seating capacity and provides comfortable accommodations for groups of 5 to 300 people. The convenient passenger drop-off area is centrally located in front of specialty shops and we offer free parking for banquets. The Fish Hopper offers a gourmet selection of menu choices, prime rib, steaks, fresh locally caught seafood, delicious poultry and a variety of fresh pasta dishes as well as a childrens menu. With his cowboy hat cocked on the back of his head, Sabu Shake was a legend on Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf, greeting guests at his restaurant, Old Fisherman's Grotto since 1950. For nearly five decades Mr. Shake, his wife Isabella, and their six sons have owned and operated the Grotto.
