Parkfield, another tiny community, was once a prosperous mining town and is located in the southern-most region of Monterey County. Known as the "Earthquake Capital of the World" for its location along California's San Andreas fault line, Parkfield is the most closely scientifically observed earthquake zone in the world. Historically, a 6.0+ magnitude earthquake has occurred every 22 years. The last was recorded in 2004.

Home to a large ranch, Parkfield holds many events related to ranch activities. The Annual Parkfield Rodeo takes place every May, and there's cattle drives every April, May and October. It's not all about the cows, however — there's the Parkfield Bluegrass Festival every Mother's Day weekend.
