Pacific Grove Feast of Lanterns

July 23-26, 2009

A tradition lasting for over a century, the Pacific Grove Feast of Lanterns is a community celebration. This four-day event in Pacific Grove includes a lantern parade, a pet parade, traditional dancing, live entertainment, children's activities, and a beautiful fireworks show. Local high school students are named to the "Royal Court" and receive an academic scholarship.

Events

Opening ceremonies for the Feast of Lanterns - which includes refreshments, as well as pomp and circumstance - are held at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History at 1pm on Thursday, July 23.

On Friday, July 24, the main celebrations of the Pacific Grove Feast of Lanterns begin! At 2:30pm, watch the pet parade beginning at Caledonia Park and marching down Lighthouse Avenue. Participants and their pets will be dressed in traditional costumes from around the world. And there'll be dancin' in the streets at 6pm! Get free lessons in traditional dances from around the world at the intersection of Lighthouose and Congress Avenue, and dance with the Royal Court.

Saturday is Pageant Day at Lovers Point Park! Children's activities begin at 11am. Dine on food from around the globe with noon's Feast of Foods. There will be live international entertainment throughout the day, including the traditional pantomime of the Legend of the Blue Willow. Stick around after nightfall for a fabulous fireworks show! Then head over to Jewell Park at 1pm Sunday for refreshments and to watch the closing ceremonies.
