WINERIES AND TASTING ROOMS

Monterey County is one of the largest wine growing and producing regions in California, made famous by unique microclimates and diverse growing conditions that produce 32 varietals. The secret to Monterey's viticultural success is the "Blue Grand Canyon." The cold, deep waters of Monterey Bay bring fog and moderate temperatures throughout the growing season, and infuse every drop of Monterey County's wine with an impressive style and structure.

Oenophiles can head to the heart of Monterey County wine country through River Road Wine Trail in the Salinas Valley. A dozen wineries, most with wine tasting rooms, provide the opportunity to sip on the region’s top varietals, including Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Sun-kissed Carmel Valley is also home to more than 20 wine tasting rooms, with the one-square-mile village of Carmel-by-the-Sea boasting 17 wine tasting rooms as well. Wine lovers can spend more time getting to know local wines and winemakers during food and drink events like the Winemakers' Celebration in May.
