Located south of King City, Lake San Antonio is Monterey County's premier freshwater recreation area. Water sports are a year-round attraction in Lake San Antonio, along with camping, fishing, hiking and swimming. Lake San Antonio also is the most popular wintering spot for bald eagles — a fact that makes it a popular spot for birders. The annual Wildflower Triathlon & Festival is a three-day event at Lake San Antonio, held during the first weekend in May.
Lake San Antonio provides visitors with open water on which to waterski, canoe, motorboat, and fish, as well as sheltered areas perfect for swimming. The miles of horseback riding trails along Lake San Antonio's north shore provide riders a challenge while allowing them to get back to nature. Hikers and mountain bikers can stretch their legs with 26 miles of trails on Lake San Antonio's south shore ranging from beginning to advanced; see this trail map from the Monterey County Parks website. Birders can spy a wide range of waterfowl, and in winter can spot the noble bald eagle.
Lake San Antonio has over 500 camp sites, many with hook-ups. Make a reservation for Lake San Antonio camping and camp directly on the shore, giving you easy access on the lake for all kinds of water activities. Lake San Antonio campsites are available on both the north and south shore, and range from regular tent camping sites to RV sites with full hookups. All personal watercraft are allowed at Lake San Antonio. Don't have a watercraft of your own? Rent a boat at the South Shore marina! If you prefer to have your water experience on skiis, Lake San Antonio is a waterskiier's paradise.
If you want to add America's symbol, the bald eagle, to your list, there's no better place to do so than Lake San Antonio. Lake San Antonio is the bald eagle's favorite wintering-over spot.
