The fifth annual Carmel Authors and Ideas Festival, will be held from September 23 through 25, 2011 in Carmel, CA. This intimate event, founded by Jim McGillen in 2007, allows literature lovers to hear authors speak, attend book signings, and even have casual conversations and exchanges with the well-known writers in attendance.
Authors
Twenty-nine writers, including Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan, founder of Worknik.com Erin McKean, author of "This Boy's Life" Tobias Wolff, and many more will be featured throughout the weekend. Smaller breakout sessions give attendees the opportunity to have a more personal experience with the outstanding scribes attending the event. Book signings throughout the day will also give ticket-holders an opportunity to meet face-to-face with their literary heroes.
Activities
The weekend's activities will include an Opening Reception and registration on Friday. The remainder of the weekend's activities features lectures, smaller workshops and book signings with those fiction and nonfiction writers, journalists and other notable authors in attendance.
Lodging
Carmel is known for its variety of historic hotels, quaint inns, resorts and rustic cottages overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Monterey Pine forests. By virtue of its "small town" setting, most hotels are within walking distance of the Sunset Center, along with boutiques, restaurants and galleries. Parking
Free parking is available for Sunset Center patrons in both its parking lot and the City parking lot between Mission Street and San Carlos Street on 8th Avenue. Parking is free of charge in the City lot after 6 pm on weekdays and all day parking coupons are available for purchase at one of two automated vending machines at the lot.
Tickets
The Carmel Authors and Ideas Festival provides an unequaled opportunity to meet the award-winning writers who influence our ideas and shape our world. Standard tickets start at $550 for all general sessions of the three-day event. Additional packages include various levels of sponsorship tickets ranging from $1,000 to $55,000 that include special amenities and access to exclusive events. Tickets may be purchased by mailing a check made payable to "Carmel Authors and Ideas Festival" with an order form to PO Box 2424, Carmel, California, 93921.
