Travel to Big Sur From Monterey and Points North on Highway One: 24 Hours a Day, One-Way Reversing Traffic Control

The Rocky Creek section of Highway One, 12 miles south of Carmel's Rio Road, is open to traffic 24 hours a day. One-way reversing traffic control has been implemented; this may result in traffic slowdowns. Please give yourself a little extra time to get to your destination.

Travel to Big Sur From San Simeon and Points South on Highway One: Alder Creek Now Open

The Alder Creek section of Highway One has reopened as of June 9, 2011. Geographic instability and falling debris had temporarily closed Highway 1 at Alder Creek in both directions, 38 miles south of Big Sur at the eight mile marker.
