In 2008, Monterey County received honors no other United States destination can match. Three Monterey County destinations – Big Sur, Carmel and Monterey – have been honored with TripAdvisor 2008 Travelers' Choice Awards, making Monterey the only county that can boast three of these coveted accolades.
There is no other place in the United States where vacationers can experience three spots unique enough to win their own award within a short drive. Big Sur, which TripAdvisor notes holds "California's most memorable ocean vistas," ranked number 28 among world destinations and second among United States destinations. Visitors "may never leave" Carmel, ranked 45th among all world destinations and seventh among United States destinations. TripAdvisor lauds the town for its "serenity and quiet beauty". The county's namesake, the city of Monterey, wasn't left out. Picking up the hundredth slot in the Travelers' Choice World Destinations awards and the 19th spot in the United States rankings, Monterey has received TripAdvisor raves for its ubiquitous "natural beauty, art, culture and history."
TripAdvisor has confirmed what in-the-know tourists have been hoping to keep to themselves. When it comes to top travel destinations, nowhere in the world can match Monterey County!
