AVIA Wildflower Triathlon

April 30-May 2, 2010

The AVIA Wildflower Triathlon is really three separate, fiendishly difficult triathlon events, wrapped around a fun exposition and some great camping. The first event at the AVIA Wildflower Triathlon, held Saturday, is the "long course" event, also known as the "half-Ironman." The second, the Mountain Bike triathlon, could be called a "super-duper Sprint," as it's a little longer than a Super Sprint and a little shorter than a standard Sprint. The third, held Sunday, is an Olympic-distance triathlon. All take place on a rough, tough course that will test the mettle of any triathlete. At the AVIA Wildflower Triathlon, be prepared for hills, hills and more hills when you're not in the water.

The Long Course

This ain't your mother's long-course event! As you experience the AVIA Wildflower Long Course Triathlon, you may wonder how it is possible for a park to have so much "up" and so little "down." (There's a reason riders call it "Nasty Grade" and "Heart Rate Hill"!) You'll use your trail skills on the run, as 60% of it is done offroad on the hiking trails at Lake San Antonio. If you think you've mastered the long course, that's just because you haven't experienced the AVIA Wildflower Triathlon.

The Mountain Bike Triathlon

If you're a beginning triathlete, the AVIA Wildflower Mountain Bike Triathlon is the perfect place to cut your teeth. The swim is an easy quarter mile, out and back. Mountain bikes are required, as much of the 9.7 mile cycling course is on trails, not paved roads. The two mile run course at the AVIA Wildflower Mountain Bike Triathlon is also partially on trails, so make sure you're ready for an off-road experience!

The Olympic Triathlon

The triangular swim course in Lake San Antonio is the perfect warm-up at the AVIA Wildflower Olympic Triathlon. The 40K bike course has a tough climb at Lynch Hill that separates the wheat from the chaff. Don't burn out your legs; though the 10K run course at the AVIA Wildflower Olympic Triathlon won't have Beach Hill to contend with, there's still fierce challenges ahead!

The Sports Expo

Enjoy live music, great food, race clinics and a peek at the latest gear at the AVIA Wildlfower Triathlon Expo area! Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the expo sells all the equipment you need if you discover a last-minute lack. It's also a great place to enjoy the company of your fellow triathletes.

Camping

The AVIA Wildflower Triathlon is an all-camping event. Rent an RV or pack a tent. Campsites are first-come, first-served, so make sure to arrive early!
