Main Street in Oldtown Salinas has a new pillar in town adding to existing juggernauts like the National Steinbeck Center and the Fox Theatre. 201 Main is Salinas's newest addition on this historic block offering up all sorts of dining options, meeting venues and nightlife opportunities.
The massive revamped building once served as a Wells Fargo bank and has since become an architectural beauty. The 201 Main Complex houses seven unique event spaces all under one roof. Currently the property houses restaurants Giorgio's and Ticino's with a Tapas Bar, Wine Bar and private nightclub in the works. Each space has been completely renovated with a touch of class and Mediterranean décor.
The complex's flagship restaurant, Giogio's is at the main entrance of the pristine structure. Upon entering you feel as though you have you been transported directly to Florence, Italy with simple yet elegant décor, a panoramic view of the duomo at the Florence Cathedral, an open kitchen complete with a pizza oven and amazing high vaulted ceilings.
The dining room is full of different seating options including long rectangular tables fantastic for large family-style gatherings and tall cozy booths perfect for an intimate dinner for two. Or head outside to their Tuscan piazza complete with an expansive bar , flat screen TVs, waterfall, twinkling party lights and fire pits.
With the Tuscan touches and a name like a Giorgio's you can bet your lucky stars that this place serves up some serious Italian cuisine for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. Giorgio's Chef Alessio Giannuzzi is a Tuscan native and a real kick in the pants creating authentic dishes and charcuterie straight from the source, including boar prosciutto he has been curing over a year.
The menu is as native as it comes with a variety of "pizzes," "pastes," and "carnes." The Costolato carne dish evaporates on your palate with Chianti braised short rib served in a savory gravy over mashed potatoes and sautéed veggies, delizioso ! And no Italian meal is complete without a legitimate tiramisu and a shot of the Chef's homemade limoncello.
Neighboring eatery Ticino's is on the more casual side and an ode to the Salinas Valley with rustic décor and wall art depicting the "Salad Bowl of the World." The coffee shop and deli serves made to order sandwiches, paninis, wraps and salads as well as a variety of grab-and-go items. The fresh café is open daily for breakfast and lunch.
201 Main's expansive three-story floor plan also includes various meeting rooms and spaces which come with a plethora of bar set-ups accommodating up to 1400 guests, talk about a party! The downstairs nightclub is particularly a darling of a space with the former bank's original safety deposit boxes and vaults acting as part of its ornamentation.
Stay tuned as this complex continues to evolve and introduces exciting new additions to Salinas's dining and nightlife scene including a tapas bar, wine bar and nightclub.
