Congratulations to Steve Stumpf and Amber Crago! These two submitted the best writing and photography pieces to Trazzler's California Wine Contest. For honorable mentions and more contest entries click here. Steve Stumpf wrote a great review on Lazy Creek Vineyards in Philo, CA. He is the lucky recipient of a 2-nights stay at the luxurious Tradewinds Carmel and two Carmel Wine Walk passes. Check out his award-winning writing piece below. "Forget the limos, the tasting palaces, and the $40 tasting fees. In Mendocino wine country you will find world-class and great value wines in the friendliest tasting rooms you thought were long gone. Drive north on the 101 and jump on the 128 north heading west. The road hugs the Navarro River all the way to the coast. The sun flashes on and off depending on how deep you are in the Navarro Valley. Blink and you will miss the sign to Lazy Creek Vineyards. The half mile ride up a lazy creek is a feral fantasy; only thing missing are fairies on ferns. The ranch is turn of the century and the vineyards are more than 30 years old. We are here to taste the Burgundian-style pinot noir Lazy Creek is known for. The 2006 Lazy Creek Vineyards RPD Pinot Noir is from the oldest vines on the property. Like Mendocino, this wine is a throwback to the rustic rugged beauty lost in time." Amber Crago's photo taken at La Rocca Vineyards in Forest Ranch, CA (below) has earned her a $150 gift certificate to one of Monterey's buzziest new restaurants, Restaurant 1833. Congrats!
