Alder Creek now open!
As of April 6, 2011 there are no restrictions on travel through the Alder Creek area. Highway One is open throughout the southern portion of Big Sur.
Rocky Creek: closed to motor vehicles
The Rocky Creek section of Highway One, 12 miles south of Rio Road in Carmel, continues to be closed to motor vehicles. According to the Big Sur Chamber of Commerce, the Rocky Creek section may re-open as soon as April 23.
Pedestrians and bicycles may pass through the restricted area of Highway One at 7am and 4pm only. Monterey-Salinas Transit provides bus service to the restricted area from Monterey. For more information on this interim bus service, see the Monterey-Salinas Transit website.
The distance from the restricted area to the Big Sur Lodge is 15 miles. All hotels and restaurants in Big Sur remain open and welcome travelers coming from the north and south.
