Carmel Art Festival competition, Big Sur wildflowers, driving Highway One, more AT&T rumors

What's it like to compete in the Carmel Art Festival's Plein Air Painting event? Big Sur artist Erin Gafill, one of the competing painters, details her process and shares photos of her paintings here, while Sharon Weaver shows off her plein air paintings for the competition as she describes her challenges. California Photo Scout has a great article on how to photograph wildflowers in Big Sur. The photos show that wildflower season hasn't ended yet! AOL Travel has listed its top 20 free things to do in the West. Two items on that list are located in Monterey County: the Point Pinos Lighthouse in Pacific Grove, and the River Road Wine Trail in Salinas Valley. Congrats to both for making the list! Sid Kaplan describes driving Highway One in Big Sur and driving from Carmel to San Francisco. Both provide several tips on how to do the drive as well as what to do during your visit.
