As January, California Restaurant Month, comes to a finish, we’d be amiss not to pay homage to Monterey County’s bountiful seafood that graces the area’s dining scene. Given the destination’s 99 miles of coastline, it’s no wonder why the fruits of the sea can be enjoyed at area restaurants in any format they are craved, from fine dining at Zagat-rated venues like Passionfish in Pacific Grove to cozy counter service at institutions like Phil’s Fish Market & Eatery in Moss Landing.
As one last hurrah for California Restaurant Month, we’re giving away a taste of Monterey – enter to win here. This Friday, one lucky winner will be awarded a $50 gift certificate to Sandbar & Grill in Monterey. The Sandbar & Grill is a quintessential place to go for seafood: it’s on historic Fisherman’s Wharf overlooking the Monterey Bay, the atmosphere is California casual – no worries about getting garlic butter on your shirt – and its menu boast surf (and turf!) options that go hand-in-hand with enjoying California’s coastline.
Those keeping an eye on their dining conscience can feast in peace with the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch. This program helps travelers can enjoy seafood in a sustainable manner, so you can’t go wrong in ordering your freshest, most ocean-friendly meal yet. Hungry for more? The aquarium’s famous foodie event, Cooking for Solutions (May 18-20, 2012), combines celebrity chefs, tastings, and hyper-local food and wine demonstrations right next to the oceanic critters it strives to preserve.
Don’t forget to pack your appetite and stay tuned for other mouth-watering events!
