Heading to Monterey for a trip this summer? We've got your dining and drinking needs covered.
First Thing's First: Fill Your Stomach
Anyone who's indulged in the spirits from time to time knows how a rookie move, like not eating enough food prior to partaking in alcoholic merriment can have disastrous consequences. So before you start tossing them back, it's imperative that you coat your stomach with enough food to absorb all that booze.
For some classic bar and comfort foods check out new eatery and watering hole Turn 12. This racing themed bar and grill is known for their Turn 12 Burger, Turn 12 Pizza, hearty salads and strong cocktails. Here you will find everything you need to get your engine running.
Maybe you're more in the mood for some Italian food. Head over to Cibo Ristorante Italiano, located in Monterey's enthralling downtown. Any seasoned veteran knows how well a nice base of pasta or pizza can help absorb the looming excess of alcohol that's in your future, but if you're feeling adventurous, why not give the Griglia Mista di Pesce a whirl? That dish is described as follows: grilled jumbo prawns, sea scallops and seasonal fish, roasted pepper couscous, balsamic reduction and spaghetti squash.
Needless to say, Monterey has a wide array of restaurants that are certain to satiate the palates of even the pickiest of eaters. But now that you've got a full stomach and have seen the bottom of a few pints or cocktail glasses, what's next?
Raise Your Glass
When it comes to a bar crawl, dinner is to the appetizer as drinking is to the main course. Now that you've prepared yourself for a night of overindulgence, do some calisthenics and get ready to be on your way.
As you saunter in and out of bars, you might lose your sense of direction at some point. But fear not: All you need to do is take a deep whiff of the air to make sure you're relatively close to the ocean. Just make sure you don't get too close to the water. And certainly make sure you don't get wet.
So make your way, preferably by foot, to The Mucky Duck, London Bridge Pub, Characters Sports Bar & Grill, Peter B's Brew Pub, Schooners Coastal Kitchen & Bar and the C Restaurant & Bar. That list doesn't cover all the watering holes in Monterey, but if you can cross them all off the list by the end of the night, you've done a good job and deserve some recognition.
Just remember: There's nothing wrong with tossing them back. But please do so safely
