This December you have not one but two opportunities to see renditions of The Nutcracker! Both the Dance Kids of Monterey County and the Monterey Peninsula Ballet Theatre present two different, and delightful, takes on the traditional holiday ballet during two back-to-back weekends at the Sunset Center in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
Dance Kids of Monterey County
The age-old story of 'Nutcracker' adapted to historic Monterey Peninsula comes to life through a full-scale production complete with a full orchestra and children’s choir performance. Dance Kids has given this 120-year-old story a local influence with the Party Scene set in the Old Del Monte Hotel on Christmas Eve. Pebble Beach founder, Samuel Morse, has invited Jean Harlow, Salvador Dali, Louis Armstrong, Mae West and other celebrities to a festive holiday party, introducing his visiting European guests, the Stahlbaum's and their children Clara and Fritz, to the stars of stage and screen. Uncle Drosselmeyer captivates his audience with life size dolls who come to life and perform for Clara and her friends. The very special holiday gift of the Nutcracker doll, given by Drosselmeyer to his favorite niece, culminates the excitement of the evening and foretells the tale of fierce battles, gentle snowfalls and far-away lands.
Performances take place December 7th and 8th at 7pm and December 9th at 2pm. Tickets are $49 for adults and $35-$45 for children. Click here to purchase.

The Nutcracker provides entertainment for everyone – soldiers battling beasts, a prince saving a fair young lady, and fantastic wonders such as snow falling from Sunset's arches and trees growing before your eyes.
