Things get jazzed up around Monterey this weekend as the world renowned Monterey Jazz Festival comes to town. The Monterey County Fair & Event Center plays host to this prestigious event with over 500 acts and headliners like Norah Jones, Wynton Marsalis, Dianne Reeves and Charles Lloyd. Get some Vitamin D at the Monterey Beach SportsFest on Del Monte Beach. Sporting events include open-water swims, beach volleyball, ocean water polo, and a sand castle contest for kids. On Saturday, the Monterey Beach SportsFest will also host an expo and a free movie night on the beach. Saturday and Sunday. Del Monte Beach, Monterey. Free for spectators. 

Monterey Beach SportsFest

Kick off your weekend on the right foot with a free walking tour at Asilomar Conference Grounds. The 1 hour and 15 minute hike showcases historic highlights of the iconic property. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 10am. 800 Asilomar Avenue, Pacific Grove. Free event. 

Get the kids out of the house and into the theatre! The Little Mermaid comes to life at the Outdoor Forest Theater in Carmel-by-the-Sea with dazzling costumes, sets and special flying/swimming effects. Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 3pm. Mountain View Avenue & Santa Rita Street, Carmel-by-the-Sea. $8-$36.

Friday

Parking spaces along Alvarado Street in downtown Monterey transform into decorated parklets for (PARK)ing Day. These mini parks will feature green spaces, outdoor seating and fun and educational booths from various City departments. 11am-2pm. Alvarado Street, Monterey. Free event. 

Saturday

The City of Seaside turns its public parking spaces into “PARK-lets” today. The 700 block of Broadway will be transformed into pop-up parks alongside their weekly farmers' market. 10am-2pm. 700 Block of Broadway, Seaside. Free event. 

Make a toast to save our shores during the Toast to the Coast Benefit Dinner & Gala at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Dine under the sea with featured speakers including Congressman Jimmy Panetta and Margaret Spring- Vice President of Conservation and Science and Chief Conservation Officer at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. 6pm. 886 Cannery Row, Monterey. $175.

Sunday

Enjoy a relaxing mix of meditation and yoga during the Mindful Yoga & Meditation for Self-Care Retreat. Here you will learn a variety of practices to accommodate your needs for self-care and you’ll receive support in integrating these practices into your everyday life. 12:30pm-4:30pm. Test your knowledge on sports, wine, pop culture and more during Sunday Trivia at Bargetto Winery on Cannery Row. Teams will play 4 rounds of 7 questions per category in order to compete for a winning prize. 4pm-6pm. 700-G Cannery Row, Monterey. Free event.
