It’s that time of year again with runners from around the globe converge on the Monterey Peninsula for the Big Sur International Marathon on Sunday! The Expo takes places this weekend at the Monterey Conference Center in preparation for the big event. Not only can racers pick up their racing bibs but here you will find fitness apparel, equipment and fitness related demonstrations. Friday from noon-6pm and Saturday from 10am-6pm. 1 Portola Plaza, Monterey.
Did you know that Old Fisherman’s Wharf has its own theatre? Bruce Ariss Wharf Theatre plays The Musical all weekend long! Don’t miss this performance with classic songs. Thursday-Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2pm. 1 Fisherman's Wharf, Monterey. $10-$25.
Head over to the Paper Wing Theatre and catch a performance of the adult musical “Reefer Madness.” The crazy comedy is a musical satire of the cult classic “Reefer Madness” made popular in the late 1930’s. Friday and Saturday at 8pm, 320 Hoffman Avenue, Monterey. $20-$23.
Mix and Mingle among sea jellies at the Monterey Museum of Art La Mirada. Check out their new “underwater” multi-media, exhibition that complements the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s newest exhibit The Jellies Experience. 6pm-8pm, Monterey Museum of Art La Mirada, 720 Via Mirada, Monterey. $15.

Join Camp SEA Lab for Family Day at Pt Pinos in Pacific Grove. This is a great way for young ones to experience the magical world of tidepools. The day will include full "feet-on and hands-on" activities from tidepool exploration, games, to arts & crafts. Start the day off on the right foot with a hike through Garland’s Lower Trails. Today guides from the Monterey Peninsula Regional Parks District take hikers (and wildflower enthusiasts) through scenic trails such as Waterfall, Cliff, Mesa and Lupine. The 3 mile hike is expected to last 2 hours. Don’t forget to bring water, snacks and to wear comfortable shoes. 10am, Garland Ranch. Free event.
It’s time for another Science Saturday at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History. Today the museum will focus on flowers. Kids can dissect flowers, look through microscopes at different kinds of pollen and plant cells and check out seed embryos. 11am-3pm, 165 Forest Avenue, Pacific Grove. Free event.

Get ready, get set, go! The Big Sur International kicks off bright and early this morning. Runners will embark on 26.2 miles of the most beautiful coastline in the world. Related marathon-day events also include a 21-mile power walk, 5K run, 9-mile walk, 10.6-mile walk, marathon relay, and Just Kids 3K. 6:45am-1pm, Highway One in Carmel and Big Sur.
The Monterey Museum of Art- La Mirada presents the Listening Place. Today readers present “Carnival of the Animals,” a fun and witty story about animals featured in literature and poems. 1:30pm, 720 Via Mirada, Monterey. Free with museum admission.
Head on over to Moss Landing for a Marine Mammals Babies & Behavior Tour. Elkhorn Slough Safari shows off some of their friends including harbor seal mothers and pups as well as other marine mammals. 1:30pm, Elkhorn Slough, Moss Landing. $42.
