The Monterey Symphony takes on classic works from Rodrigo, Beethoven and Schubert this weekend during Revolution. Pianist Jean Louis Steuerman will take center stage with conductor Max Bragado-Darman’s direction. Friday at 7:30pm at the Steinbeck Institute for Arts & Culture in Salinas, Saturday and Sunday at 3pm at the Sunset Center in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Purchase tickets here.
Seriocomedy “Big Baby” will have you rolling in the aisle at the Paper Wing Theatre this weekend. This wacky play has some interesting characters including a Catholic mother, a middle-aged son and a dominatrix. Friday and Saturday at 8pm. 320 Hoffman Avenue, Monterey. $20.
Who doesn’t like a good tribute to The Beatles? Tonight the Sunset Center in Carmel-by-the-Sea explodes with some of The Beatles’ greatest hits during “1964… The Tribute.” Rolling Stone Magazine even dubs it as “the best Beatles tribute on Earth!” 8pm, San Carlos Street and Ninth Avenue, Carmel-by-the-Sea. $48-$58.
Get down and dirty at the Big Sur's Mud Run this morning and cheer on the crazy teams and individuals participating in the 5 mile mud run! The route includes a variety of obstacles, drill sergeants and lots of mud! 8am, Freeman Stadium at the CSU Monterey Bay Campus, Seaside.
Learn to draw the perfect portrait during “Drawing in the Grid: The Chuck Close Portrait” taught by Margaret Niven. The workshop will be held at the Monterey Museum of Art La Mirada where students will be surrounded by works from Chuck Close. 10am, 720 Via Mirada, Monterey. $35.
The Ying Quartet stops by the Sunset Center for an incredible evening of chamber music. The award-winning foursome preforms works from Haydn, Bunch and Schubert. 8pm, San Carlos Street and Ninth Avenue, Carmel-by-the-Sea. $15.
Grammy-nominated artist Leo Kottke plays a stunning solo acoustic guitar concert in the Steinbeck Forum at the Monterey Conference Center tonight. 8pm, 1 Portola Plaza, Monterey. $35.
Gypsy Jazz group Tree Top Trio stops by the Fernwood Tavern in Big Sur tonight. This trio does a brilliant job fusing jazz and swing with a sax, bass and mandolin. 9pm, 47200 Highway One Big Sur. Free event.
