It’s the last weekend to catch a performance of AristoCats playing at the Golden Bough Theatre! Talented tots perform this family friendly Disney hit all weekend long. Friday at 7:30pm, Saturday at 2pm and 7:30pm and Sunday at 2pm. Casanova Street and 8th Avenue, Carmel-by-the-Sea. $7-$20.
Can’t wait for the Monterey Jazz Festival in September? Don’t worry, the Next Generation Jazz Festival will keep you entertained in the meantime. This weekend aspiring young jazz musicians congregate at the Monterey Conference Center. Talented high school and college bands compete for cash awards and the chance to play at the Monterey Jazz Festival. Friday night is the Opening Night Judges Concert which is free for spectators. Friday-Sunday, 1 Portola Plaza, Monterey. Free event.
Kick it old school at Bullwacker’s tonight. Roots 66 is out on the patio jamming some of the best classic rock hits around! 8:30pm, 653 Wave Street, Monterey. Free event.
Rex Wheeler is back at London Bridge Pub tonight to play acoustic rock music. 9:30pm, 256 Figueroa St., Wharf #2, Monterey. Free event.
Get in the mood for spring with a Fabulous Flowers and Ferns hike with guides from the Monterey Peninsula Regional Parks District. This morning hikers join a wildflower expert for an easy 4 hour hike along Garzas Creek. Don’t forget to bring water and snacks and to wear comfortable shoes. 9am, East Garzas Trailhead. Free event.
Bring the kids to the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History for a fun Science Saturday. Today’s hands-on activity will take a close look at butterflies and bees. Kiddos have the chance to meet a bee keeper, taste honey, make beeswax candles and enjoy the museum’s newest exhibit “Monarch Come Home.” 11am-3pm, 165 Forest Avenue, Pacific Grove. Free event.
You are cordially invited to the first-ever Butterfly Ball in Pacific Grove. The Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History’s fundraiser event celebrates the new special exhibition “Monarchs Come Home.” Guests will enjoy live music, open bar, heavy hors d’oeurves, dancing and a silent auction. 6pm, 165 Forest Avenue, Pacific Grove. $75 for members and $125 for nonmembers at the door.
The Monterey County Fairgrounds gears up for An Evening of Texas Swing and Song tonight at their Turf Club. Country fiddler Amanda Shires and local country/swing band The Good Sams will put on quite the hootenanny for the 21 and over crowd. Don’t forget the cowboy boots! 7pm-midnight. 2004 Fairground Road, Monterey. $15 for adults, $12 for military, seniors and students.
It’s story time at the Sunset Center in Carmel-by-the-Sea tonight. Selected Shorts highlights short stories with host Isaiah Sheffer and stories from Kirsten Vangsness from Criminal Minds and Christina Pickles from Friends. 8pm, San Carlos at Ninth Avenue, Carmel-by-the-Sea. $30-$50.

Good Morning! It’s time for a springtime hike with guides from the Monterey Peninsula Regional Parks District. Today the crew will Discover Kahn Ranch in Garland Park. Hikers will enjoy beautiful views of valleys and ridge tops along the Hitchcock Loop. The hike is 3.7 miles long and is expected to last 3-4 hours. 10am. Kahn Ranch Parking Lot. Free event.
The Sunset Center offers a two-for-one show this evening. Violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and pianist Anne-Marie McDermott both perform dynamic solos during this entertaining show. 3pm, San Carlos at Ninth Avenue, Carmel-by-the-Sea. $40-$60.

What could be better than great views, fantastic wine and impeccable music! The Monterey Symphony performs tonight at A Taste of Monterey overlooking the Monterey Bay. This Music Salon showcases various styles ranging tango, salsa, blues, jazz, electronica to classical! 7pm-9pm, Cannery Row, Monterey. $95.
