Over 500 jazz artists convene at the Monterey County Fairgrounds this weekend during the 55th presentation of the Monterey Jazz Festival! The 3-day event will showcase the best in jazz, blues, folk and Americana over six different stages. Headliners include Tony Bennett, Esperanza Spalding, Pat Metheny, Dee Dee Bridgewater and the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra. Click here for a full schedule. Last chance to catch a performance of the Disney classic Beauty and the Beast at the Outdoor Forest Theatre in Carmel. This weekend they will be singing popular hits from the Broadway show like “Be Our Guest” and “Something There.” Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2pm. It’s a bird… it’s plane… it’s the California International Airshow! This weekend the USAF ThunderBirds, the Patriots and the Canadian Forces CF-18 take over the Salinas sky for crazy stunts and aeronautical acrobatics. There will also be military demos, military fly-bys and monster trucks. Gates open at 9am and flying begins at noon on Saturday and Sunday. 30 Mortensen Avenue, Salinas. The grand finale of Concerts in Carmel is here and the line-up is well worth the wait! The ever-popular Money Band gets down to classics dating back to the ’50s to some of today’s hottest hits. New eatery 400 Degrees serves up delicious gourmet burgers and fries paired with savory wines from Ventana Vineyards. 5pm-7pm, Ocean Avenue and Mission Street, Carmel-by-the-Sea. Food and drink package is $15.
Custom House Plaza and Old Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey will be stocked with artwork and activities during Art of the Sea. This marine artwork festival showcases local artists and includes fun activities like dancing, live music and face painting. 9am-5pm, 1 Old Fisherman’s Wharf, Monterey. Free event.
The Monterey Museum of Art is celebrating families today with free admission! Check out some of the awesome exhibits and enjoy special activities like a scavenger hunt, story time, photo opps and more. 11am-4pm. 559 Pacific Street, Monterey. Free event.
If you’re in Monterey and you like beer than you’re in luck! The 2nd annual Monterey Beer Garden brews it up at the Memory Garden in Custom House Plaza. Admission includes unlimited beer tastings from 11 local breweries, BBQ and live entertainment. 12pm-4pm, 4 Custom House Plaza, Monterey. $40.
Funky jam band Matt Masih and the Messengers perform at the Fernwood Tavern in Big Sur tonight. The six-piece band is full of flavor using trumpet, guitars, sax, bass, drums, keyboard and vocals. 9pm, 47200 Highway One, Big Sur. Free event.
There's plenty of food, festivities and fun to be had the 48th annual Carmel Mission Fiesta! The historic Carmel Mission hosts this family friendly event with a BBQ and Mexican inspired lunch, margaritas, wine, games, and live music from the Chicano All Stars Band. 11am-5pm, Rio Road and Lasuen Drive, Carmel. Enjoy a free screening of ocean conservation documentary Ocean Frontiers at the Golden State Theatre in Monterey. Stay afterwards for a panel discussion with local experts and a sustainable food and wine reception. 3pm-5pm, 417 Alvarado Street, Monterey. Free event.
