The luminous Diderot String Quartet will perform the first concert of the 80th Carmel Bach Festival, July 1 at Pebble Beach's Church in the Forest. The concert begins at 5:00, and the quartet will perform "Bach to the Future: the Legacy of the Fugue"

J.S. Bach:  Art of the Fugue, BWV1080 (excerpts)
Felix Mendelssohn: Fugue in Eb major, Op. 81, No. 4
Felix Mendelssohn: Quartet No. 2 in A minor, Op. 13

The quartet - all four of whom are current or past members of the Bach Festival Orchestra - includes Johanna Novom and Adriane Post, violins; Kyle Miller, viola and Paul Dwyer, cello. They came together in 2012 in New York City, having first met at the Oberlin Conservatory and The Juilliard School. The musicians share a background in historical performance and a passion for chamber music.

The quartet enters a third year as a resident ensemble at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (NYC) and a second year as Quartet in Residence at the Washington National Cathedral. It was awarded a two-week residency at Aldeburgh Music in the U.K.  Prior to its Bach Festival performance, the quartet will appear at Music Before 1800 (New York), Renaissance & Baroque (Pittsburgh), St. Cecilia Music Series (Austin, TX) and Early Music at St. James (Lancaster, PA).
