Five New Exhibits to Open at the Pacific Grove Art Center on display from September 1 through October 26 , 2023

Pacific Grove Art Center, located at 568 Lighthouse in Pacific Grove, is pleased to announce five outstanding new exhibits on display from  September 1 - October 26, 2023.

Please join us on Friday, September 1st from 7-9 pm for all new exhibits.  Glenn Leon-Guerro will be the musical guest for the evening on keyboards and vocals, playing some Old School R&B. Admission to the PGAC is free and made possible through donations.

    About the five new exhibits:

    • Monterey Bay Plein Air Painters Association General Membership Show – Seasons, Gill Gallery

The paintings in the show will showcase the beautiful California scenes, highlighting the effects of seasonal changes. All work will be done in plein air. Maura Carta of Palo Alto is the esteemed juror and judge.

Gordon Mortensen – Conversations with Chaos, Dyke Gallery

I’m fascinated by scenes that appear to be nothing more than layers of busy, random chaos. Example: Check out the dried mulch in your neighbor’s yard. All those prickly oddball shapes just might be something profoundly expressive just waiting to be discovered. I find that fabricating some chaos of my own is an effective way to initiate the conversation as I search for the perfect union between painter and painting.

    • Stacey Gregory – ENDGAME, Annand Gallery

Assemblage artist and painter, Stacey Gregory, flips game boards upside down and tosses out the rule books. Using recycled and unconventional materials, her work explores our volatile relationships with technology, the body politic, climate change, startup culture, equal pay for equal work, the Ukrainian War, pandemics, cultural appropriation, Monopoly, and The White Lotus.

    • Donald Kellogg – Winter Light, Boyer Gallery

This exhibit features ephemeral moments during the winter in Yosemite Valley when pristine light and unspoiled nature combine to make something beautiful. An almost spiritual sense of stillness and calm replaces the crowds and hustle of the summer season.  It is my hope that this exhibit will inspire you to visit and to marvel in this beautiful place at this quiet time.

    • Monterey High School - Living in a Dream State: The Fantastic Worlds of Today's Teen Artists, Small Halls

Today's teen artists make art not simply to create "pretty pictures" but in fact to survive the chaotic world that they find swirling around them. In this show, 32 digital artists from Monterey High School share digital illustrations of their internal "dream worlds" which help them to stay sane while living in our truly "mad world" of today.
