    On Friday, Jan 26th, the Lab in Carmel presents a rare performance of John Cage's "Sonatas and Interludes" for prepared piano by Jeffrey Trevino, Assistant Professor of Music at CSUMB.

    John Cage's Sonatas and Interludes (1946-48) for prepared piano converts a grand piano into a one-player percussion ensemble by inserting forty-five everyday objects — erasers, screws, bolts, bits of plastic — between the piano's strings according to the composer's precisely specified measurements, resulting in a vivid sonic universe of gongs, bells, and drums.
