La Merienda

Don’t miss Monterey History & Art Association’s premier annual event! A limited number of tickets are now available to the public to attend the 94th Annual La Merienda, outdoors in the Memory Garden off of the Custom House Plaza-Monterey State Historic Park. La Merienda celebrates the City of Monterey's 255th birthday with a very special BARBECUE BUFFET EXTRAVAGANZA, a five-star culinary experience created by the OLD FISHERMAN’S GROTTO CHEFS and the VIP Merienda Barbecue Committee, with entertainment by Dennis Murphy & special guests, mariachis, folklorico dancers, and a festive "Californio" party.

The majestic cake is graciously given in honor of Honore Escolle and his family members by his great-great grandson John Del Piero and his wife Dr. Juliet Del Piero. Our family has donated the cake since 1975, 51 years. It is decorated with roses by Jackie Craghead, and cut ceremoniously with the historic sword of Colonel Fitch. Gallant dons, doñas and señoritas in 18th century costumes will be the order of the day at this festive "Californio" party. There is also a Silent Auction and 50/50 raffle.  The VIP Merienda Barbecue Committee features an array of community leaders and elected officials!

All proceeds above the cost of La Merienda itself will go to Monterey History & Art Association (MHAA), a 501c3 non-profit organization, to support the maintenance of Casa Serrano, Doud House and Garden, Mayo Hayes O’Donnell Library, and Monterey History and Art at Stanton Center.
