  About the event:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 An exhibition celebrating the life and collections of the late Pat Hathaway featuring historical images of Monterey, c.1870-1950, collected and preserved by him over a period spanning five decades.
  
  This exhibition is a special collaborative effort between the City of Monterey Museum & Library Division and the Monterey County Historical Society, and made possible through a generous grant from the Thomas Doud, Sr. and Anita M. Doud Fund I of the Community Foundation for Monterey County.
  
  According to James Perry, Executive Director of the Monterey County Historical Society, “We are excited to share with the audience some of the highlights of the City of Monterey from the Pat Hathaway Collection. We look forward to seeing you there.” The memorial exhibition will run from August 29 through September 29, 2024.

  
  About Photographer Pat Hathaway:
  Mr. Pat Hathaway, raised in Pacific Grove, assembled one of California’s largest privately held image collections. Upon his return to the Monterey Peninsula in 1968 after serving in the Vietnam war, Pat immediately began collecting historical images and also focused on his own passion for photography. In fact, his first exhibition was here at the Pacific Grove Art Center in 1968 where he was also in residence. Before passing away suddenly in January 2021, Pat managed to assemble over 80,000 historical images, mostly of the Monterey Peninsula, Salinas Valley & California dating to the 1850s. His love of photography was immense as evidenced by over 470,000 of his own images chronicling over five decades of daily life on the Monterey Peninsula. His collection is now preserved in the vaults of the Monterey County Historical Society.
