Monterey Conference Center Renovation
Program Management Firm Selected
The Monterey City Council has approved the selection of a program management firm. Ausonio, Inc. is a Watsonville-based firm whose project team includes a highly respected consultant with experience building projects worldwide. The firm was selected by a panel composed equally of city staff and hotel / hospitality representatives with expertise in design and construction of major projects, including conference / convention centers. The panel reviewed all proposals submitted by firms responding to the City’s RFP; selected and interviewed the top four companies; and ultimately made its choice.
The Monterey Conference Center opened in April 1977. It was built by the City of Monterey to meet the needs of medium size conferences and to advance the recreational and cultural opportunities of the community. The $32 million renovation project will result in a LEED certified conference facility with advanced technology, additional space and improved options for break out space.Media »
Selection of an Architectural Design firm is well underway. The leading candidate firm is expected to be presented to City Council for approval in October. Once approved, the Architectural Design firm will provide a construction schedule by early 2015.
When will the Monterey Conference Center undergo the renovation or set dates?
Even though the funding has been successfully voted upon the project still requires an architect firm to be hired and final plans to be drawn and reviewed prior to knowing possible date options for the project to begin and finish. We hope in summer/early fall 2014 we will have construction dates and a timeline for the project.
