John Steinbeck’s Birthplace and Boyhood Home is a Restored Queen Anne Victorian owned by the Valley Guild. Built in Salinas in 1897, it was opened to the public as a restaurant on February 27, 1974 —the 72nd anniversary of John Steinbeck’s birth. This charming restaurant is located two blocks west of the National Steinbeck Center at 132 Central Avenue in Salinas. Open for lunch Tuesday-Saturday 11:30am-2:00pm. Gift Shop 11:00am-3:00pm.
