Spring in Monterey County brings longer days, green hills, and one of the most-anticipated outdoor events of the season. Each April, the Life Time Sea Otter Classic returns to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, drawing cyclists, outdoor enthusiasts and spectators from around the world. The 2026 event is happening Thursday, April 16 through Sunday, April 19.

More than a race weekend, the Sea Otter Classic offers a chance to experience Monterey County’s outdoor culture, from scenic trails to coastal views, all within a few miles of the festival grounds.

Run the Trails Around Laguna Seca

One of the newest additions to this year’s event is the Sea Otter Classic Trail Run, taking place Saturday morning.

The run gives participants the opportunity to experience the landscapes surrounding Laguna Seca and the former Fort Ord trail system in a new way. Runners will navigate rolling terrain, oak woodlands and open views that highlight the region’s reputation for outdoor recreation.

Participants can choose between:

  • 17K (10.6 miles) for a more challenging trail experience
  • 5K (2.8 miles) designed for beginners, casual runners and families

Both races finish on the Laguna Seca Raceway track, creating a memorable finish line moment.

The 5K course is especially accessible, with strollers allowed, making it a great option for families or groups looking to start the day with an active experience.

Cycling remains at the heart of the Sea Otter Classic. Over four days, the event brings together professional athletes, amateur riders and fans from around the world.

Visitors can watch races across multiple disciplines, join recreational rides or explore the Sea Otter Expo, which features more than 1,000 cycling and outdoor brands.

The festival also includes product demonstrations, athlete appearances and opportunities to test ride new bikes and gear, creating an environment that blends competition with a strong sense of community.

A Weekend That Works for Families Too

Sunday’s Family Day makes the event especially accessible for visitors traveling with kids.

Children ages 12 and under receive free admission, and on Sunday, each child may bring two adults for free as well. The Family Zone includes activities like obstacle courses, balance bike areas and kid-friendly riding challenges designed to introduce younger visitors to cycling in a fun, low-pressure environment.

Families can also take part in interactive games throughout the day, including the always-popular Sea Otter egg hunt, which adds an extra layer of fun for younger attendees.

Turn It Into a Monterey County Weekend

One of the biggest advantages of attending the Sea Otter Classic is how easy it is to explore beyond the event.

After a morning at Laguna Seca, visitors can head into Monterey, Pacific Grove or Carmel-by-the-Sea. The Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail offers a scenic way to unwind, while nearby restaurants and waterfront areas provide plenty of options to relax after a full day at the festival.

For those looking to stay active, the surrounding region offers miles of trails, ocean views and outdoor experiences that extend well beyond the racecourse.
