The Calidore Quartet brings a big program to their performance in Carmel: A beautiful quartet by Haydn (Op. 76 no. 5), a powerful work by Shostakovich, his String Quartet No. 8, which we havent presented in over 20 years, and Beethovens immense and profoundly moving String Quartet Op. 131. Writing of the Calidore, The New York Times said: Deep reserves of virtuosity and irrepressible dramatic instinct. The Los Angeles Times noted that the Calidore are Astonishing shockingly deep [with] the kind of sublimity other quartets spend a lifetime seeking.
The Sunset Center hopes to see you to hear CMMBs fifth and final concert, with an extraordinary ensemble and a powerful closing for our 59th Season.
