As you leave Marina onto the long stretch of Reservation Road, you are met with the scenic rural landscape of Salinas and Salinas Valley. Once you pass through, you can make a quick stop at Fort Ord National Monument.
Fort Ord National Monument is a former military base and has over 80 miles of trails and provides visitors opportunities to hike, bike and see a huge diversity of wildlife on historic grounds. The monument has sweeping ocean views at higher elevations, making it a perfect destination to experience the area's fascinating history, outdoor adventure and breathtaking natural beauty all in one place.
Lions, Tigers and Bears: Visiting Monterey’s First Zoo

Just a short distance away from Fort Ord National Monument through River Road, is Monterey Zoo. There are many ways to experience the zoo, making this a fun experience for everyone in the family to enjoy! The Mission Nuestra Senora de la Soledad (Soledad Mission) is the 13th of the 21 California Missions and is one of the three in Monterey County. The Mission was founded in 1791 and features beautiful adobe architecture, a peaceful courtyard and a chapel that has been restored over the years. The grounds and gift shop are staffed by volunteers and a caretaker who lives on site. Visitors can stop by the gift shop to purchase gifts and acquire a self-guided tour.

Did you know that 23 million years ago, multiple volcanoes erupted, flowed and slid to what we all know today as Pinnacles National Park? Pinnacles National Park is a stunning natural wonder that is known for its unique rock formations, rugged cliffs and diverse wildlife. The park is popular amongst outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy hiking, rock climbing camping and scenic views. This is also a great place for bird watchers as there could be a chance to see many species including the California Condor. There are many trails to discover leaving this to be an unforgettable experience.
