Carnival

Fun for all ages attractions are a staple for county fair carnivals, and the Monterey County Fair is no exception! In 2009 Helm and Sons Amusements is offered a stellar line-up of new action-packed amusement rides and improved games including the Century Wheel (the largest wheel to ever grace the Monterey County Fairgrounds), the Lolli-Swing, the Cliff Hanger, and the Zipper. Rides not your "thing"? Take a stroll through the Coo-Coo House, or a turn at Whac-A-Mole! The little ones will enjoy Jumping Jumbos, where they join new jumbo elephants directed by a mouse conductor.

Music and Live Entertaiment

Luke Bryan is the featured performer for 2010's opening day. Also scheduled to perform are the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Survivor, Mike Beck & The Bohemian Saints, and Beatlemajesty.

Other performances on the three stages throughout the Fairgrounds include hypnotists, gymnasts, dancers, clowns, theatrical troupes, storytellers, splash dogs, and karaoke. The Fair will also include nightly performances at the Dive Bar.

Competitive Exhibits

Competitors in both junior and adult exhibitions show livestock, gardening, arts and crafts in the exhibition halls, each hoping to be the winner in their category. Fairgoers can also compete in daily cooking contests.

The Dive Club at the Turf Club Patio

In 2009, the Turf Club Patio, open from 12 noon to 10 pm for Fairgoers over the age of 21, featured a variety of microbrews and wine tasting. It was also host to the nightly After Party at the Dive Bar that began each evening at 9 pm.

The Turf Club Patio was also home to 2009's "Taste of the Vine" Wine Tasting Event from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Thursday, August 13. Guests had the opportunity to taste top Gold Medal and Best of Show wines selected from a previous private judging event and vote for their favorite. The Peoples’ Choice winning wines were unveiled during the event.
