July 4th Living History Day

Monterey State Historic Park’s Living History Day returns in the scenic Memory Garden, located behind the Pacific House Museum at Custom House Plaza. Held immediately after the City’s Fourth of July Parade, this free, family-friendly event invites visitors to experience life in Early California through hands-on activities and engaging historical demonstrations.

Guests of all ages can enjoy traditional activities such as rope making, leather stamping, tortilla cooking, embroidery, map making, candle making, and 19th-century games. Guided History Tours will be available @ 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., offering deeper insight into Monterey’s rich past.

As a special treat, don’t miss a chance to meet The Lorax! Before entering the Memory Garden, stop by the front of the Pacific House Museum for a photo op with this beloved Dr. Seuss character. It’s a day of history, fun, and community for the whole family.

Admission is free, although donations are welcome to support California State Parks’ Title 1 School Year Programs, which help provide educational field trips to students in underserved communities.
