Treasure Hunt: The Ride takes you beneath one of Monterey’s most iconic neighborhoods for an interactive adventure inspired by the legend of pirate Captain Hippolyte Bouchard. Armed with your own “Treasure Collector,” you’ll search for hidden riches while navigating elaborate caverns, special effects, animatronics, and a few ghostly encounters along the way.
It’s a little history, a little mystery, and plenty of family-friendly fun.
Know Before You Go
- Experience: The ride takes approximately 20 minutes from entry to exit.
- Tickets: Advance tickets are available online, and walk-up tickets are also available, subject to availability. Ride times are assigned with admission.
- Height requirements: Riders must be at least 36 inches tall with an adult, or 52 inches tall to ride without one.
- Parking: Paid parking lots and meters are available throughout the Cannery Row area. The ride does not validate parking. Find public garages and lots on The City of Monterey website.
- Good to know: The experience includes motion, flashing lights, sounds, scents, and light mist.
Follow a Monterey Pirate Legend
The adventure draws inspiration from a real chapter of Monterey history. In 1818, Argentine-born pirate Captain Hippolyte Bouchard and his crew attacked Monterey, raided the town, and set sail with their spoils. Treasure Hunt: The Ride takes that story and imagines what might happen if Bouchard’s lost treasure were still hidden beneath Cannery Row.
Your mission: find it.
As your ride vehicle moves through the cavern system, use your Treasure Collector to search for gold and other hidden treasures. Along the way, you’ll encounter pirate skeletons, the ghost of Captain Bouchard, cavern creatures, and even a legendary sea monster.
And there’s a competitive twist: every rider has a score to beat.
An Adventure Beneath Cannery Row
Treasure Hunt: The Ride combines immersive sets, animatronics, lighting, sound, and special effects to make you feel like you're traveling deep underground.
The experience begins with a pirate-themed pre-show before you board your Cavern Car and descend into the fictional world below Cannery Row. Once the hunt begins, keep your Treasure Collector ready; you never know where the next piece of treasure might be hiding.
The result is an attraction that feels part dark ride, part interactive game, and part pirate adventure.

Treasure Hunt: The Ride is an easy addition to a day exploring Cannery Row, where Monterey’s history continues above ground.
Spend some time browsing the shops and waterfront, visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium, or grab a meal overlooking the bay before or after your underground adventure. With so many things to do on Cannery Row within walking distance, you can easily turn a visit into a full day of exploring.
