Los Padres National Forest

South of Carmel, Big Sur, CA 93920

Los Padres National Forest issued a fire closure order September 3, 2016 for the entire Monterey Ranger District to help ensure that members of the public are not injured within the Soberanes fire perimeter, allow for the scorched landscape to begin the rehabilitation process, and help reduce the potential for another human-caused fire. While Forest Service campgrounds along Highway 1 will remain open, all trails and campgrounds are closed to the public. The notable exception is that Nacimiento-Fergusson Road remains open to through traffic only. Under normal conditions, the area features mountains, streams, rivers and beaches. Popular area for hiking, with 323 miles of trails and 11 campgrounds ranging from rugged to suitable for RV’s.
