Recently, members of the LGBT Meeting Professionals Association (LGBT MPA) took the time to share memories and inspiration from their recent experiences in Monterey County. It was such an honor and a privilege to speak with and collaborate with meeting planners Josh Adams, Brian Bouchelle and Justin Wusinich on this blog! Here are their responses to our questions.
Describe your Monterey County Experience
"I love the variety of environments of the County. Within 30-45 minutes, a visitor can travel from pastoral farming communities where you can stop at local produce stands and by anything from strawberries to artichokes and every type of vegetable you might imagine, to one of the most beautiful coastlines in California encompassing Monterey and Big Sur. You can have high-brow experiences in Carmel and Pebble Beach or any of the resorts in the Carmel Valley or be completely casual enjoying hikes in the Point Lobos State Natural Reserve, or biking any number of bike paths, or wine-tasting award winning wineries. And who doesn’t know about the Monterey Bay Aquarium? This should be a stop on anyone’s itineraries, followed by a nostalgic stroll along John Steinbeck’s Cannery Row, or a feeding frenzy on the Monterey Wharf pier,” - Josh Adams.
“I love the sunsets, water views and comfortable weather all year long.” - Justin Wusinich
“My husband and I were married in Carmel and we felt like the whole town was supporting us on this journey. Our guests stayed in Monterey at the Portola Hotel & Spa and the hotel was the most accommodating hotel experience we have ever had. Each city has its own unique flavor and is the perfect backdrop for your LGBT experience. The Monterey County CVB is so helpful and goes above and beyond to make your stay exceptional.” - Brian Bouchelle
Can you speak to Inclusion within the Monterey County Convention & Visitors Bureau (MCCVB)?
“During my first Monterey FAM trip/site visits, every vendor, supplier and host was very welcoming, friendly and understood why I was there and the business I could bring to the destination. Joe Marcy has always been so hospitable and welcoming!” - JW
“I know that the CVB and members have always supported and been present at LGBT events. In this era when people speak of inclusivity in the workplace, the MCCVB’s involvement with the LGBT MPA emphasizes the support of inclusive action. - JA
Do you have recommendations for the LGBT+ traveler when they come to Monterey County?
"Booking any one of the charming hotels or B&Bs in Carmel-by-the-Sea and enjoying the beautiful walks and beaches and restaurants the village has to offer. It's tuly a romantic getaway! For those who are more active, I would recommend kayaking or scuba-diving on and in Monterey Bay. And for those who are foodies, map a route of the wineries in the county, stop for lunch and/or sunset cocktails at Nepenthes and finish the day with a fabulous seafood dinner." - JA
"Outdoor farmers markets, fine dining, and wine tasting." - JW
