A Flock Of Seagulls

A Flock of Seagulls, famous for their iconic 1980s haircuts and hit single “I Ran (So Far Away),” were key figures in the new wave and new romantic movements. Formed in 1980 by hairdresser Mike Score (vocals, keyboards), his brother Ali (drums), and Frank Maudsley (bass), later joined by Paul Reynolds (guitar), the band first gained underground attention with “Telecommunication.” Their 1982 self-titled debut album brought mainstream success, fueled by MTV and U.S. Top Ten hits. Subsequent albums included Listen (1983) and The Story of a Young Heart (1984), with minor hits like “Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)” and “Space Age Love Song.”

Despite lineup changes and relocations to the U.S., Mike Score continued touring with session musicians. The band’s influence grew through pop culture references in TV, film, and video games. The original lineup reunited for performances in 2003 and 2004, and Mike led global tours through 2017. In 2018, the band released Ascension, their first album together since 1984, featuring the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
