Lake San Antonio is a go-to destination for freshwater recreation on California’s Central Coast. This expansive reservoir is known for its laid-back atmosphere and wide range of outdoor activities, from boating and water sports to swimming and lakeside relaxation.
Day Use Overview: Lake San Antonio provides visitors with open water for waterskiing, canoeing, motorboating and fishing, plus it features sheltered areas perfect for swimming. Miles of horseback riding trails along the north shore provide riders a challenge while allowing them to get back to nature. Hikers and mountain bikers can stretch their legs with 26 miles of trails on Lake San Antonio's south shore, ranging from beginner to advanced. Birders can spy a wide range of waterfowl, and in winter, can spot the noble bald eagle.
Camping: Camping is a major draw, with more than 500 campsites ranging from developed campgrounds to primitive shoreline sites, making it one of the few places in California where you can camp right along the water’s edge.
Fishing: Anglers are also drawn to the lake for its excellent fishing, with opportunities to catch striped bass, largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, catfish and bluegill throughout the year.
Birding: Lake San Antonio is a popular wintering spot for bald eagles, making it a must-visit for avid birders. It's also home to a number of golden eagles, grebes, red-tailed hawks, swans and American coots.
