Accessible playgrounds allow children of all abilities to play together, promoting inclusion, friendship, and empathy. They also provide an enjoyable environment for parents, grandparents, and caregivers of differing abilities to share meaningful experiences with their children.
Inspired by Tatum Bakker during a family trip to Idaho, Tatum’s Garden became the first accessible playground in the tri-county area. While many believe the City of Salinas manages the park, it is actually operated by the Tatum’s Garden Foundation, a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
The park’s ongoing maintenance and programs are made possible through the support of community members who donate their time and resources. Learn how you can help by volunteering or making a contribution.
