Monterey Dia de Muertos

The 17th Annual Monterey Bay Día de Muertos Celebration**, presented by Calpulli Yaocuauhtli, will take place **for the first time at Monterey State Historic Park’s Custom House Plaza, located at the entrance to Old Fisherman’s Wharf**. This marks an exciting new location for the long-standing annual celebration of ancestral remembrance, Indigenous traditions, and community connection.

This free, family-friendly cultural gathering invites visitors to experience:

- Traditional Danza Azteca ceremonies** featuring huehuetl drumming, conch shell calls, sacred dance, and copal offerings.
- Community altars and ofrendas** honoring departed loved ones.
- Cultural performances** celebrating Indigenous traditions, including California Native dancers.
- Tianguis Mexica Marketplace** featuring artisans, handcrafted goods, and traditional Mexican foods.
- Catrina Contest** celebrating Día de Muertos artistry, with cash prizes.

Presented by an Indigenous-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the celebration welcomes all generations to experience living cultural traditions and honor the enduring connection between ancestors, families, and community.
